Written by Men?

I was wishing to post a comment but could not find a topic to which it specifically belongs - it is relavent to almost all of the topics on your site. I'm not sure if this is the best way to address the question/comment to you and if it's not, please tell me the best way to do it from now on. Anyhow, to the point: I was reading through many of the posts on various topics and I noted that several times, you (among many others - you are simply the easiest to directly reach) stated that the Bible was written by men. Specifically I saw this comment in a long transaction between you and "biblicalwitness" concerning the "Plea to TRUE Chritians". Anyways, what i would like to know is: What is your basis for stating that the bible was written by men? What proof can you offer that the Bible was written only by men? What is your proof that the Bible was NOT inspired by God and written through men? And why do you base your beliefs of the origins of the Bible on thi...

I'm a Christian

Hi, I've come to this site off and on for the last few months to see what's being talked about and I really enjoy it. You see, I'm a Christian (as in, one that worships God and believes that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, although there is obviously more to it than that). I can appreciate the reasons why so many people leave the Christian faith. Some of my friends & family have done so and have similar arguments that feature alot on this site, but I have investigated a few of them and have found inconclusive evidence either way. To be honest, this post has no real point, I just wanted to let you know that I respect your decision to not worship God and that that doesn't make me a better person than you. Warm regards, Joel B

You people are pathetic

You people are pathetic. You use a lot of big words for having the brains of a small rodent (and I am talking about anyone who isn't a christian). What is it like to go through life not knowing where your going, or whats going to happen. The even sadder thing is, is that the bible says that you would say stupid things like on this web site. I'm not going to explain anything to you, people didn't like Jesus to much, so you know they won't like christians. People who are saying stuff like the things on this blog have only accomplished to further my pity for you. I am so sorry for you, because I am full aware of whats going to happen to you. I'm so, so sorry....

I'm a christian

Hi, Well, I don't like sneeking in on people so I'll just say it straight away: I'm a christian. I havn't looked much on your site (yet), but a few things I want to say: First of all: I found this site when I was looking for free-to-watch christian movies and found you got one of Hovind's debates online here :) The second thing was that I read your "challenge to all christians visiting this place" in which you give three points which we should think about if we want to stay a christian. I was positivly surpriced you were so objective! Those points did not contain any sh!t like "you go door-to-door all the time while you shouldn't bother anyone", or "you only think of yourselfs as better people because..." or "many of you are so dishonest" or... (I suppose I could go on for a while her ;)) Anyway, I had trouble with these things too, but I no longer see them as a problem. I don't know exaclty what you did when you thoug...

If there is a God

I had the experience of growing up in a family where there was more than one brand of religion - i.e. Baptist and Anglican. Later on I attended the Mormon Church and then later a pentecostal church. Some would say that this would lead to confusion - but I tend to think that it has clarified the fact that there are so many inconsistencies among the various denominations, that it is better to get away from everything just to think for ones' self. If there is a God, I would like to know for myself - not take someone else's word. If there isn't a God - then I also want to know for myself - not take someone else's word. I have never really been religious, and I have never really been a great reader of the Bible either. Perhaps most people who have become atheists have become so because of their own convictions, whereas I have always been sceptical and never really believed strongly in any theory or belief system. I was given the nickname of "doubting Thomas" ...

A Question of Statistics?

I am an ex-christian and I have been on a Christian forum. One of the Christians on this forum wrote the following about why Christianity must be true: Member Member # 3741 posted 02-21-2006 12:25 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique among all books ever written, the Bible accurately foretells specific events-in detail-many years, sometimes centuries, before they occur. Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. (The remaining 500 or so reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.) Since the probability for any one of these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance averages less than one in ten (figured very conservatively) and since the prophecies are for the most part independent of one another, the odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 102000 (that is 1 with 200...

A weekend intensive for letting go of religious indoctrination and reclaiming your life.

Led by Marlene Winell, Ph.D. The effects of authoritarian religious training can last a long time and run deep, seriously impacting your ability to enjoy life. The process of leaving one's faith often creates intense feelings of confusion, grief, anxiety, and anger. Full recovery can be difficult if the issues are not clear and you feel alone in the struggle. This workshop is designed to support you in this process of healing and growth. The weekend is a powerful group experience of sharing personal history, examining key issues, and exploring new liberating concepts. In addition to discussion, we will use experiential methods including art, guided visualization, movement, and role-play. There will also be time for shared meals, relaxation, and fun. Because we are staying together, we will have the chance to get acquainted and begin a lasting support system beyond the weekend. As a special bonus, we will have massage and acupuncture treatments available, and guests are welcome to ...

Say hello to yet another EX-christian

I was not abused by Catholic Priests, or by anyone in any way. Nothing catastrophic made me "angry with God". There was no single event that lead me to atheism; rather, it was a very gradual journey of examining the evidence, (or lack thereof) all the available facts, falsehoods & myths, actual cross-referencing history, from sources both within and hostile to christianity. Not to mention those that are purported to be "evidence" from an alleged "Jesus" contemporaries - most of which turn out to be hearsay, early christian forgeries, or conglomerations of mistranslations and misinterpretations. It was the use of logic, science and reason that lead me to atheism, as it has many here. After all, this is the default position. I am not the one making the claim that there is a god, afterlife, ghosts or demons or anything supernatural. It is religionists that make the claim(s). The burden of proof is on them. Carl Sagan used to say, "Extraordinary claim...

The Challenge to any Fundementalist Chrsitain reading this

sent in by Mike This is a challenge to any fundamentalist Christians reading this. I have posted this challenge already but it seems to have been ignored by the Christians who view this site, and hijacked by those wanting a political debate. I would challenge any Christians who insist that the bible is the inerrant word of god, to specifically answer the three questions below. Lots of you think that the ex-Christians on this site are either running from God or have given up because they want to be 'in the world' in order to sin. You just can't get your heads round the fact that the Bible is full of holes, and that we haven't 'chosen' to disbelieve. Instead we disbelieve because once you read the Bible you realise that it is full of holes. I have three types of problems with the Bible, and I challenge the Christians to explain them, without resorting to personal attacks such as "If you were a real Christian, you wouldn't need to ask these questions"...

one acid test

It seems to me there is one acid test that could prove the Bible is not the word of God. There is lots of prophecy in the Bible. Christians claim it all comes true or will come true and there is a strong probablistic argument for the Bible being a miracle from this. However it would seem to me that we would only need to find one prophecy among the hundreds stated which has not come true, and that because of of the way events have since gone no longer can come true (for example the nation concerned no longer exists) to discredit the truth of the prophecy. One unambigious example would be proof against surely? If the Bible has no supernatural aspect it would seem likely we would find one of these. Has anyone done any research on this subject? Just an incident

Hi guys! This isn't gonna be a testimony, cause I think I might give taht one to you later. But thanks for this website. It sure helps people to re-consider and get stuff straight. I just wanted to tell you about one situation I had with my christian friend. Shortly after I was a born-again christian I asked my friend: If god made every creature on earth the way it is supposed to be did the lions eat other animals then? She: No, they were all getting along and not eating each other. They only did that after the world had fallen. I: But then the world would have got overpopulated after only a short while. HOw would that have worked? She: God i so great he would have figured that out. Don't you believe he is great enogh to solve that problem. That was a moment when I really thought: Wow, it's gonna be hard to think that way. All I say is that the arguments of chritians are sometimes really lame. Of course they sometimes have good arguments but well...very rarely I came to dis...

I hardly know what to believe any more

I never thought I would find a site like this one - but its a comfort to know that there is one. Just reading a letter where someone mentioned Philip Yancey's book "Disappointment with God" and that pretty well sums it up for me too. So much has gone wrong since I became a Christian. I know there have been some very poignant moments in my Christian life, and I can't forget those times, but generally speaking, the quality of my life seems to have deteriorated since becoming a Christian and I have suffered from major depression as a result of this deterioration. I am told that this deterioration is a result of either curses or being under demonic attack. My anxiety levels have also definitely risen since becoming a Christian and I am fed up with just how complicated and scary it is to actually be a Christian. I hardly know what to believe any more, since every message is different. I wish it were just so simple and there were no complications or talk of spiritual...

I find it very interesting that you...

I just wanted to say a few things to you in regards to your website. From what I have seen here a lot of people talk about the lack of "proof" of God. The point of faith is to believe and trust in Him without him giving you a reason not to have faith. If you have any relationship don't you want your loved oens to trust you at some point without you constantly be doing miraculous things for them? At some point shouldn't they have faith in you as a person and for how much you care for them? I find it very interesting that you take so much time and effort to mock Christianity. If someone were to disrespect your beliefs and thoughts you would be offended, yet you take full advantage of the opportunity to be disrespectful to the beliefs of many people who have not harmed you in any manner. If you simply don't believe in Christ, why not leave it alone? Why the obsession? Either way I am sorry that you have so much bitterness and hate. It must be tough to carry th...

I'm a pastor in Indiana

I just came across your site for the first time. Interesting. But just between you and me (I'd hate to disillusion your readers) it's not christianity you are ex-ing, it's religion. The Christianity you are debunking is as far as I can tell man-made and man-altered. The message of God through Jesus Christ said nothing of retributin for AIDS, hating homosexuals, or even the right to be an atheist. God says love your neighbor as yourself; can't love me then you don't love yourself, and if you don't love yourself you don't love God. Loving the unloveable; that's what self-made Chrsitians can't do because that brings them down to the level of--EVERYONE!!! By the way, I'm a pastor in Indiana, and I too am a little discouraged with "Man's Christianity"; I serve a living God not a set of man-made rules and opinions. My brother told his friend about my church: "It's not your momma's church of God!" Keep on keepin...

hard to breathe

sent in by MJ I am new to this site. I posted a testimony . It's in the recent articles . Sometimes just thinking about what has happened in the past 2 years makes it very hard to breathe. I went for so long with Christianity programmed into me that it's really hard. Do I still believe in God? I can't answer that. Sometimes I don't think I do. Sometimes I think He's there. I can't decide. I was at a bar recently speaking w/ someone. They asked me what I believe in. (why is it that we are all programmed to have to have something to believe in?) I told them. Well, I do believe God exists. They asked if I thought that all would go to heaven. I replied no. They asked if I thought that I would go to heaven. I said with the way I am living, I would go to hell. Does that scare me? Yes, I would go to hell. I am so confused right now. I am sure many of you have gone through this. But it's hard. I know that we all have to find something to believe in; even if it's...
