Why would the writers of the bible make it up?

At first I still wanted to believe.

I have been reading this site non-stop and I have finally accepted that there is no god.

But one thing keeps calling me back and I need help. Why would the writers of the bible make it up? Most of them never met. I know it's supposed to be "divine," but what's the real answer?

A letter from Charles M Hello, I was impressed by the webmasters testimonial and all the work he did over the years for the Bible. I understand that there is a lot wrong with the churches in America and elsewhere. There are to many stumbling blocks put there by people in churches. Also lots of churches dont accept what the Bible says and dont understand it. I dont see the point of investigating the Bible if you dont check out the basics of what it says. For instance if evolution is true then the Bible is not. Simple. If this question is not satisfactorily settled it does not matter how well you know the Bible or how much someone wants to be a christian the whole thing is just going to self destruct at some point in the future. So check out the claims of evolution - do they really stand up ? are they really 'scientific' ? or is the seemingly implausible idea of creation more logical ? These are the issues that individuals must work out to their satisfaction. Also, what about ...

sent in by Mike This is a challenge to any fundamentalist Christians reading this. I have posted this challenge already but it seems to have been ignored by the Christians who view this site, and hijacked by those wanting a political debate. I would challenge any Christians who insist that the bible is the inerrant word of god, to specifically answer the three questions below. Lots of you think that the ex-Christians on this site are either running from God or have given up because they want to be 'in the world' in order to sin. You just can't get your heads round the fact that the Bible is full of holes, and that we haven't 'chosen' to disbelieve. Instead we disbelieve because once you read the Bible you realise that it is full of holes. I have three types of problems with the Bible, and I challenge the Christians to explain them, without resorting to personal attacks such as "If you were a real Christian, you wouldn't need to ask these questions"...

Hello, just typing in to say that I found this site. I think it is very sad, many of the experiences people have had. Yet, after reading testimonies, I wonder if many got the real gospel...the real good news...or just got a bunch of man-made tradition and hypocrisy, which is quite easy to reject. A letter from John I've read the articles on your site, and I realize that some of the Christians and atheists are 2 sides of the same coin: both angry at people who don't follow their ideals. A lot of atheists have taken pot shots at Jesus. But, in truth, did Jesus found Christianity? NO! Jesus was a guy who thought he had some good ideas. He may have been deluded into thinking that he had some message from God or maybe he did genuinely receive some inspiration from a higher source. I don't know and I don't care. Christianity as we know it was created by Roman politics. The bible, which Christians claim to be inspired by Jesus - and thus has credibility, was in fact just a few of a great many writings on Christianity which happened to be... politically correct, and hence were compiled to form the bible that we know of. The other writings were suppressed and destroyed. To what extent Jesus preached about going to Hell for your sins and insisting on Sermons every Sunda...
